‘Real Sapphire survived a late scare as they completed the league double over Imperial.
The hosts endured a difficult start to the game, conceding the game’s first goal in the 6th minute. Elijah Kingsley stripped Azubogu Godwin of possession before finding Bashir Abdulkareem with his cutback. The winger poked the ball into an empty net, putting Imperial ahead.
The league leaders however responded in the 28th minute. Ayodele Olawale, having started the move on the right, received a short pass on the edge of the box before shooting Coach Dan’s team back into the game.
Three minutes into the second half, Real Sapphire went in front for the first time. Ibrahim Joshua pounced on a mistake in the Imperial defense before getting on the score sheet. Ibrahim Yusuf scored Real Sapphire’s third in the 79th minute, setting them on course for their tenth win of the season.
Although Imperial got one back in the 88th minute, the result was never in doubt as the hosts took another important step towards a first TCC League title.
