Real Sapphire continued their unbeaten start to the season as they defeated newcomers, VOE.
The game started with both sides evenly matched and pushing to score the opener. But it was the hosts who found the breakthrough in the 15th minute.
Musa Akinfenwa received the ball while simultaneously racing behind the VOE defense and beating their offside trap. The winger, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, slipped the ball beneath the goalie’s arms, putting his side ahead.
The euphoria of being in the lead however lasted only 14 minutes as VOE pulled one back through Timilehin. His chip over the goalkeeper drew matters level and restored the visitors’ confidence.
In their search for a second goal, VOE left their defense unattended to. Real Sapphire smelled blood and struck in the 33rd minute thanks to Ibrahim Joshua. His goal would be the last of the game as Coach Dan’s boys maintained their grip on first place
