Gbagada secured a second win of the season after defeating Imperial in a tight contest.
Fresh off their first win of the season, Coach Akinyelu’s lads, brimming with confidence, started the game buoyantly. But both sides couldn’t find any openings in the first 20 minutes of the clash.
The first real action of the game came in the 25th minute as Gbagada goalkeeper, Lukman Babalola was called into action. The man between the sticks was however up to the task as he kept the tie level.
10 minutes later, the visitors got their goal.
Rilwan Gbadamosi pounced on a loose pass by the Imperial defense and raced towards goal. In a two-versus-one situation, the winger chose to shoot, instead of squaring it off to his teammate, Paulinus Ayeobore. His choice turned out to be just perfect as his low shot breezed past Kator Daniel in goal and into the bottom left corner of the goal.
The hosts, stupefied by the goal, would try to turn the game around with their own goal. But all efforts proved futile as they sunk to yet another defeat – their second in twice as many games this season.
For Gbagada, it’s a second win in a row as they climbed up to eight on the log. Can they keep up this momentum?
