Imperial FC 0-1 Gbagada FC

Friday 29th January, 2021

Venue: Remo Stars Stadium

Aware of what was at stake, Imperial FC and Gbagada FC went into this game looking for that first leg advantage. Imperial, fresh off a maiden league win, over Gbagada Eagles, were looking to do the double over their opponents and put one foot in the semi-final of the Creative Championship Cup.

It was a cagey affair in the first 45 as both sides were a bit cautious going into the game. Chances were few and far between in the early stages of the game. The closest either side came to breaking the deadlock was when the Imperial defense made a goal-line clearance to keep the scores tied.

The half would finish goalless, with both managers giving their players the much needed pep talk.

In the second half, Gbagada intensified their pressure and it paid off. Latching onto a through ball which was not well dealt with by the Imperial defense, Semiu Fagbayi rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an empty net.

This 47th minute goal would cause Imperial to surge forward in search of an equalizer. But the Gbagada defenders were on top of their game, ensuring that their lead was protected. Imperial had another goal-line-clearance episode before the game would end in a win for Coach Akinyelu Olajide’s men.

Gbagada FC take the advantage into the second leg of their cup encounter.

Man of the Match
