Imperial Leap to Second Spot as Blue Eagles Fail to Soar
Imperial FC condemned Gbagada FC to a second defeat in a row with their 3-0 win over the Blue Eagles.
Coach Akinyelu’s side came into this one looking to bounce back from their shock loss to Iganmu FC. After a quiet first 14 minutes, Gbagada made their intentions known as Joshua Blessing’s header was tipped over for a corner-kick.
Imperial, sensing the imperative, took the lead three minutes later when Samuel Ezekiel put one past Kabiru in goal. They’d make an attempt for a second seven minutes but Kabiru was up to the task, making a save with his foot. One defensive error followed another as the Blue Eagles struggled to find their feet. By the 38th minute, one quickly became two as Ezeno Chidera was on hand to pile on more misery on Coach Akinyelu’s boys.
Imperial started the second half the better side, pegging back Gbagada’s dangermen. Five minutes after Akibu failed to make the most of his close-range header, Imperial struck again, with Abdullahi Bilyaminu putting the final nail in the coffin in the 65th minute.
For the first time this season, Gbagada dropped points at home. The result now sees them slip to fourth as Imperial occupy the second spot on the log table.
